Azahalia, a San Ysidro native, is passionate about providing free educational and
skill-building resources to her community. Inspired by her own experiences utilizing Regional Occupational Programs to pursue higher education, she now works at the San Diego Futures Foundation to bridge the digital divide and empower underrepresented populations.
Azahalia’s background in education, coupled with her volunteer work and leadership roles in various organizations, showcases her dedication to community development and workforce enhancement. She aspires to establish her nonprofit focused on art, culture, and resources to further support her community’s growth, which is why she joined NBLWA-SD and is eager to serve as a board member.
Azahalia is an avid lover of all things culture and animals. Some of Azahalia’s favorite things are painting, dancing, attending food festivals, and anything to do with her 2 dogs and 2 cockatiels. Her love for South Bay has taken her back to volunteering as a board member for Integrity Charter School and Ocean Connectors, both in National City, as well as following all events dedicated to uplifting her beloved hometown. She also volunteers her time for MANA de
San Diego as a mentor and leadership coordinator, at San Diego City College for Career Education as a board advisor, and was recently selected to sit on the North County Philanthropy Council board. Her areas of expertise are building strong networking relationships and mentoring those who seek advice from a servant leader like herself. Her goal is to one day have her own nonprofit where art, culture, and resources are part of a blend of programs that will help enhance workforce skills. Azahalia is a graduate of the Leadership Training Institute Fellowship Program offered by the Chicano Federation and will help put into effect the lessons learned throughout her cohort in her community.
